About JTS Housing for Homeless Veterans

A Durham-Based Mission Serving Veterans with Practical Support

JTS Housing for Homeless Veterans is a community-based organization in Durham, North Carolina, focused on helping veterans facing homelessness, housing instability, and related barriers to stability. Our work is grounded in respect, accountability, and the belief that every veteran deserves access to support that is practical, coordinated, and centered on long-term progress.

We recognize that housing instability is often connected to other challenges, including benefits access, employment barriers, health needs, recovery support, and difficulty navigating systems alone. JTS exists to help veterans take the next step forward through guidance, community-based support, and connections to trusted resources.

We are committed to serving veterans with dignity while strengthening pathways to housing stability and independence.

Our Mission

Our mission is to support veterans in Durham and surrounding communities who are facing homelessness or housing instability by helping connect them to housing-focused resources, benefits guidance, employment-readiness support, and community-based services that contribute to long-term stability.

We believe real support should be clear, respectful, and action-oriented. That means helping veterans understand available options, navigate complex systems, and move toward safer housing and stronger independence with trusted support along the way.

JTS is part of a broader network of support available to veterans. Federal, state, county, and community partners all play an important role in long-term outcomes, and we believe collaboration strengthens the path forward.

Support That Helps Veterans Move Toward Stability

Veterans facing housing instability often need more than one kind of help at the same time. Stable progress may depend on housing support, benefits access, health care connections, employment guidance, and ongoing encouragement. JTS is committed to helping veterans move through those challenges with practical support and community partnership.

Who We Are

JTS Housing for Homeless Veterans is a veteran-centered nonprofit organization serving the Durham area with a focus on housing stability, support navigation, and practical next steps for individuals who need help rebuilding a more secure future.

Our approach is community-based and relationship-driven. We understand that every veteran’s situation is different, and we believe support should be responsive to real-life needs, not one-size-fits-all. Whether someone needs direction, encouragement, referrals, or help understanding where to begin, our role is to help make that next step more accessible.

We believe dignity, consistency, and local connection matter in every stage of support.

How We Approach the Work

Our work is shaped by a simple principle: veterans deserve support that is respectful, informed, and grounded in real options. We aim to connect people to the right resources at the right time, with an emphasis on housing stability, supportive services, and practical coordination.

Because veteran support often involves multiple systems, we value collaboration with public agencies, service providers, and community partners. Durham County Veteran Services, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs each offer important official pathways for benefits, health care, housing-related help, and broader veteran support. JTS helps veterans engage those pathways more confidently and more effectively.

What We Value

Dignity

Every veteran should be treated with respect, without judgment, and with an understanding of the challenges that can accompany housing instability.

Practical Support

We focus on real next steps, not vague promises. Clear information, trusted referrals, and community connection matter.

Accountability

We believe credibility is earned through honest communication, responsible service, and a commitment to continued growth.

Collaboration

Long-term stability often requires more than one organization. We value partnerships that strengthen outcomes for veterans and their families.

Rooted in Durham, Focused on Veterans

Durham is home to important veteran-serving institutions and public resources, including Durham County Veteran Services and the Durham VA Health Care System. JTS is proud to serve within that local landscape by helping veterans and supporters better understand available resources and take action toward greater stability.

For veterans and family members, official local support may include benefits counseling, claims guidance, access to health care, and housing-related assistance through public systems. JTS aims to complement that landscape with community-based support and a veteran-centered approach.
